A 12-year-old girl and her 10-year-old sister were arrested in Oklahoma after their kidnapping plot was foiled. The two girls kidnapped their neighbor's baby, 1-year-old Brandon Wells, from his home at 5:30am and left a ransom note.
The note read, "If you want to see your son again then you won't call police and report him missing and you will leave $200,000 on the sofa tonight and we will return your son back safe." They signed it "the kidnappers."
Their genius plan went sour when their mom found the baby in the bedroom. They told her that they found him on the corner. Their mother started to look for the number of Brandon's mother while the elder sister took him back to the neighbor's house. She told Brandon's mother that the 10-year-old was the one who kidnapped him. What a rat!
Brandon's mother said that the younger sister had already been banned from her home, but she wouldn't say why.
The girls are currently being held at a juvenile detention center. They haven't yet been formally charged.
The police captain said, "I've been doing this 18 1/2 years, and this is the first time I know of when a 10- and a 12-year-old kidnapped a 1-year-old. It definitely ranks up there with the unusual crimes."
I usually don't blame TV or media for things like this, but I blame TV and media for this. They probably watched some episode of Law & Order and got the idea from there. I have to hand it to them though, they sure aim high. $200,000?! Just how much do Barbies cost these days?
