Jodie Foster has been pretty honest about her sexual orientation, and most people have known for a while that she is a lesbian. However, only recently has she gone the extra mile and actually acknowledged her lover in public. I wonder why the sudden change? After twenty years of keeping themselves pretty private, what could have possibly prompted Jodie to say something now? From The Daily Telegraph:
“Jodie Foster has kind of shocked Hollywood by publicly acknowledging her same-sex lover of almost 20 years for the first time ever.
While Jodie’s sexual orientation has never been a big secret, the actress has fiercely defended her privacy and has never gone public with it.
The double Oscar winner referred to her partner Cydney Bernard during a speech, after receiving an award by the Hollywood Reporter at a Power 100 breakfast earlier this week.
Jodie thanked “my beautiful Cydney who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss.”
Cydney is also co-mother to their son.”
Don’t get me wrong; it’s great that Jodie Foster finally said something about Cydney, but still, why now? Why not 15 years ago? Or 19 years ago? Hey, why not stand up, and say something about her the first time she realised she was in love with her? I’m not for one minute going to sit here in awe of a woman who kept her lover a secret for twenty years. If Jodie had been married to a black man, everyone would be calling her out on it. “Finally” acknowledging her lover in public is not commendable, people. In this world, it should have happened a long time ago.
